Cupping Therapy

Cupping is all about creating space in the connective tissue and muscles.  This is achieved through suction cups or negative pressure massage and a lifting action.  Efficiently breaking up stagnation and releasing restrictions in the underlying musculatures increases blood and lymph flow and relieves pain by freeing impinged nerves. Your therapist will customize your treatment based on your bodies therapeutic needs and gradually work up to more intense cupping. Cupping opens up the body in ways you simply can not achieve with manual massage. Many clients report relief from tension, compacted pain, scar tissue, deep relaxation and an increase range of motion.

Clients with major organ dysfunction or disease or systemic cancer cannot be treated with cupping

Cupping Marks

Cupping marks are signs of stagnation and representative of the health of the underlying tissue. The more stagnation or restriction in the area the darker the cupping marks can appear. Therapists observe tissue reaction and modify pressure to meet each clients comfort. Although a therapist can use the cups in various ways, to receive the full benefits of cupping, markings are expected and a good signs of toxins being dredged up. Markings are an indication of effective progress in your treatment. Clients often notice with increased range of motion from cupping you may experience less marking the more frequently you receive this service and the healthier your tissues become.

Please inform your therapists if there are particular areas of your body where you do not want cupping marks. If you are scheduled for a cupping massage please expect marks that will go away within several days.

Precautions:

Occasionally, clients may experience a temporary feeling of sickness post or during treatment. This is often due to dehydration or low blood sugar and can be avoided with lots of water before and after your session and a healthy diet and reduced alcohol consumption. Skin tissue may be tender a few days after treatment but clears up quickly and often post cupping fatigue fades faster with consecutive treatments as the health of your tissue improves. Please do not exposure yourself to extreme heat or cold after a cupping session. Give your body adequate time to detoxify and integrate this healing session.
